Barba do Bode - 1

Maria Beraldo and her siblings inherited Sítio Barba do Bode (Goat’s Beard Farm) in Serra do Selado, Minas Gerais, from their parents. A small farm with only seven hectares of coffee in production, Maria and her husband always thought of coffee as something they grew for the family’s own use, rather than for sale and export. They made some improvements, such as planting a few more trees and a drying patio, but would only sell a few bags of beans per year to the internal market when they needed the cash. However, because of the farm’s altitude of 1,400m, their coffee has the potential to be of very high quality. After their nephew’s fiancé, who works for a coffee exporter, took samples of their beans to be tasted and evaluated, they realised that they had the sort of quality that could give them access to the specialty coffee market. This lot is one of the first few bags this farm as ever exported outside of Brazil.
