Ushering in the change of season is the first Mexican coffee of the year, Cacalotepec from Oaxaca. A first-time feature in our line-up, sweet and comforting, Cacalotepec offers a classic morning cup to ease you into your day. The work of the association, Cafe El Zapoteco, led by Rómulo Chavez, the group consists of 180 families. The name Cacalotepec, from the region’s Zapotec language, means "Mountain of the Raven" and refers to the area the producers are from. The biggest challenges these producers face are low production volumes and yields. The combined results of leaf rust disease and little access to finance, training, or support to tackle this, Rómulo and his team have been working to remedy these issues for several years. Having since teamed up with importer Raw Material, their mission is to establish direct relationships with roasters to obtain higher prices for the producers of Cacalotepec.
