El Romerillo is located in the Chontali in Cajamarca, Northern Peru. A family farm, Leydi Burga speaks fondly of her earliest memories and recalls being so small, that while helping her father harvest cherries, she had to settle for all the lower branches. Still working with her family, Leydi is now responsible for the bookkeeping, fermentation process and the commercialising of the coffee while her father tends to the harvest and agricultural management and her mother, the drying. Growing Yellow Bourbon, Typica and Caturra varieties, all of which are picked and processed with great love and care, the extent of Leydi’s reach is clear. Having cupped quite a few different lots of varying grades, which were all standout, El Romerillo encapsulates the quintessential flavours of speciality coffee from the region. Citrusy, with super intense, tropical flavours and sticky sweetness, we couldn’t resist.
