Kamwangi - 1

This is the first time I’ve purchased a lot from the Kamwangi washing station in eastern Kirinyaga County, Kenya. When I first cupped the coffee in Nairobi, I was struck by its sweetness and immediately thought it would make a fabulous espresso thanks to its soft berry and stonefruit profile. During the harvest, the station receives daily deliveries of cherry from nearly 1,000 members which tend be subsistence farmers who grow coffee as a part of other crops. The factory manager, Mr Njagi, oversees the processing of the coffee in the traditional Kenyan way, fully washing it with long cold soaks to enhance the acidity. They are particularly proud of the lingering aftertaste of their coffee, and have won awards in the past for the quality they produce.
