Our first Nicaraguan of the season and starting it with a bang, La Ventaja's creamy macadamia body, sweet golden syrup notes and plum acidity renders it an instant favourite.

When Ramón Paguaga decided to buy a plot of land in 1976, he found a farm for sale in Dipilto, Nueva Segovia perfect for planting coffee except for one slight disadvantage. Bad roads. For anything to be moved on or off the farm, they had to use horses. Finally, after discussions with the local government, Ramón received the help he needed to get a new road built, and with the relief that this brought, he decided to name the farm La Ventaja, ‘The Advantage’. Over time, Ramon and his sons, Sergio and Norman have bought more land expanding it to 50 hectares. Planted with Catuai, Caturra and Maragogype, they tried to preserve the natural habitat, and indigenous flora where possible by planting trees like guava, false banana, coral bean and citrus trees, attracting pollinators and birds and providing mulch for the soil all the while offering fruit and nourishment. What started as a small farm with many obstacles, grew into a means for Ramón to secure a positive future for his family, a great advantage indeed.
