Los Vascos - 1

This is our second year buying coffee from the Los Vascos group, and we’re thrilled to have it back! In the 16th century, many Basques emigrated to Colombia, and the town in Tolima where this coffee is grown was named Bilbao after the de facto capital of the Basque Country in northern Spain. The Los Vascos (The Basques) group of coffee growers can all trace their heritage back to this area. Through combining the coffee crops from their individual smallholdings they work together to increase the quality focus of their farm infrastructures, from tree care through harvesting to milling. About 80% of their output is organic, and between them they grow predominantly Caturra as well as some Bourbon, Colombia and Castillo under plantain semi-shade. They create fully washed coffee with a dry fermentation process, and the parchment is dried on parabolic patios.
