We love Burundian coffee for its great depth of flavour, complexity and balance. Qualities we find somewhat reminiscent of the lush rolling hills of its landscape. High altitudes, plenty of rainfall and volcanic soils allow for Arabica to thrive, and as a result, most of Burundi's coffee is grown on family-owned micro-plantations. Back for a second time, we're thrilled to showcase Nemba as an espresso this year. From our favourite coffee growing region in Burundi, Kayanza province, Nemba washing station was built in 1991 and has since stimulated a return to coffee farming in the area. Currently serving 2600 local farmer's its growth since 1991 has been exponential. When we received this year's crop samples, the subtle spice and floral notes immediately grabbed our attention. Vibrant with a syrupy sweetness, Nemba shines as a shot both with or without milk. Ah, just in time for extended holiday breakfasts and middle of the day nap wake-me-ups.
