Kayanza district is home to some of the best coffee in Burundi, and this season we have secured two lots from this area. Nemba is a washing station that receives cherry from just over 3000 coffee producers near the Kibila forest, each with little plots averaging some 300-350 coffee trees. The Bourbon variety that is ubiquitous in Burundi lends a sweet, softly fruity quality to the cup. The potential for quality that is created by the farmers in the fields is preserved and optimised by the team at the mill, through careful processing, drying and sorting. The station is led by an agronomist that oversees production and also acts as a point of resource for the farmers, creating a mutually beneficial relationship designed to improve the quality on both sides.
