For the first time this year the Ngororero washing station in Rwanda’s Western Province produced a couple of lots by the natural process. Typically, Rwandan coffees are washed, and only the lower quality cherries are processed as naturals and are destined only for the domestic market. But by applying as much care to the naturals as they do to their washed lots they are now producing an exportable grade that gives them access to a different market and better prices. When the producers deliver their cherry, the dedicated sorting staff float the coffee through water to remove over and underripes, before spreading out the rest on large sorting tables and hand picking out any other defects. This intensive process ensures only the very best coffee is sent out to the world to represent the producers of Ngororero, and we’re very excited to share one of their first ever naturals with you!
