We’re enjoying flavours of sweet raisins and milk chocolate with a touch of tangerine acidity in this wonderful coffee from Nicaragua.
Producer DONALD EFRAIN ROQUE LOPEZ
Varieties PACAS & CATUAI
Altitude 1300-1600 MASL
In 1992, when the Nicaraguan economy started recovering after decades of unrest and war, Donald Roque decided to invest his money in his lifelong dream of owning a coffee farm. Buying 10 hectares of land in the municipality of Dipilto, Nueva Segovia department, Donald named it after his father Ramon Roque, who taught him the importance of persistence and the value of committing to one’s dreams. Over time, Donald acquired some of the neighbouring farms, and currently owns 80 hectares with 20 hectares in coffee. Mainly growing Maragogype, Pacas and Red & Yellow Catuai, Donald is expanding his Maracaturra and Pacamara plantings, focusing on high-end speciality coffee. Washed and fermented for 22-28 hours, the coffees are dried on shaded raised beds at the La Estrella mill nearby. Ambitious, Donald aims to produce the best coffee in the region. And with this beautiful lot, he has certainly proven his ability and shown himself a great representative of the excellent quality coffee Nicaragua has to offer.
