We're thrilled to welcome back coffee from Ywangan, Myanmar. Grown in the remote mountains by predominantly hill tribe smallholder farmers in the Southern Shan State, Ywangan placed first in Myanmar's 5th National Annual Cupping Competition this year. A combined lot, individual smallholders, drop off their cherries at one of the village's collection points; usually, a home conveniently located for the local miller, for Mandalay Coffee Group to inspect, grade and purchase. Within 48 hours of picking, the cherry is hand sorted and delivered to MCG's processing mill, a five-hour drive away in Pyin Oo Lwin. Once the cherry arrives at MCG's mill, it is floated, pulped and fermented overnight. The parchment then goes through a mechanical process of rinsing and mucilage removal before it is left to dry on concrete patios, resulting in a plump cup with pleasant spicy notes and undertones of dried fruit. In celebration of emerging speciality coffee origins and Ywangan's first place award, we hope you enjoy!
