Our final feature from Rwanda’s Kinini Washing Station this harvest: welcome KCRS Cooperative to your espresso selection! Since their inception, Kinini’s own Jacquie Turner has worked closely with the women-led Cooperative Coffee Kinini Sector (KCRS). To quote Jacquie, “A few of them asked me for advice and if I could help them form a cooperative and get training from us. We then made changes behind the scenes, got the paperwork in place, and after a few days, the cooperative was registered…After all this was in place, I promised them that I would market their coffee by the coop name. These women are now expert coffee farmers.” Over three-quarters of KCRS members grow coffee above 2000 metres, an ideal altitude for growing speciality coffee. Kinini processes KCRS’s cherries into this washed lot with a creamy texture and chamomile-black tea floral notes.
