After brewing the coffee, we measured an average caffeine content of 40 mg/dl, meaning farewell to missing out on an extra cup or two a day!
We knew Aequitas from Minas Gerais, Brazil, would be ideal for this blend with its silky, inviting notes of deep chocolate and toffee, typical of the region. Partnering with Yuki Minami, Cerrado farmer and founder of Brazilian exporter Aequitas, together we selected this Catuai lot from her family farm specifically for decaffeination at Coffein, prioritising texture to complement the Ethyl Acetate process’s subtle acidity. Yuki typifies a new generation of Brazilian producers who meld thoughtful mechanical picking with soil restoration and cup quality.
Complementing Aequitas’ creamy texture with vibrant berry notes is Itumpi! From the region of Songwe in Tanzania, coffees from the southern part of the country were a Square Mile focus from 2018-2019. When we recently offered Itumpi to our coffee subscribers, its fruity, black tea notes reignited our conversation with the supply chain Itumpi AMCOS (Agricultural Marketing Co-operative Society). Uplifting Half Caff with its clean acidity, this blend is bound to cause a buzz (figuratively, that is).
