ABOUT
The Filter Blend, featuring flavours of orange and hazelnut, combines Nyamasheke’s Karora and Jalapa’s Las Brisas. This blend highlights the crucial work of wet millers who transform coffee cherries for producers lacking their own processing facilities, akin to how winemakers alter grapes.
We’ve worked with Primavera Coffee’s “Las Brisas” regional blend since 2023. Exporter Primavera buys cherries from producers near Matequescuintla, Jalapa. They then work with wet millers like Finca La Concepción to pulp, ferment, and dry those coffees. For this lot, fourteen producers’ cherries were processed under the careful eye of Roberto Rixtun, La Concepción’s longtime Mill Administrator. Clients like Primavera work with La Concepción to dictate fermentation and drying protocol, key determining factors for quality.
Karora comes from Rwanda’s Western Province, where Nyamurinda Coffee Growers Ltd., a women-led business founded by sisters Francine Nyiramana and Immaculée Mukamana, manages both their family farm and Karora Washing Station. After the 1994 genocide, the sisters returned to their family’s land in Nyamagabe District and built Nyamurinda Hills farm. They later expanded to operate Karora Washing Station, processing cherries from a cooperative of over 1,000 farmers.
