About
ABOUT
Only a short distance away from the Heza Washing Station, the Mikuba Hill, tightly flanked by the deep waters of the Ruvubu River, sprawls far and wide, with some farmers having to walk up to 5km to deliver their freshly harvested cherries. The hills surrounding Heza Washing Station, like Gitwe Hill, one of our current coffees on our filter menu, are mostly populated by coffee farmers. Creating a cooler microclimate by using banana as shade trees around their coffee gardens, other subsistence crops like tomatoes, sweet potatoes, wheat, and maize are doing well too.
Since its inception, Long Miles has been actively collaborating with local communities, leading to the creation of its unique program, "Coffee Scouts." Similar to the efforts of other agronomists and quality aid provided by many of our export partners, the Coffee Scouts program is specifically designed to address the unique challenges faced in Burundi. The scouts live among the farmers, providing training and developing innovative solutions to combat the threat of potato defects, mitigate the effects of climate change on soil health, and empower farmers with the necessary tools to produce high-quality coffee. The success of their work and innovation evident in the cup, Mikuba shines!Couldn't load pickup availability
