The work of 292 smallholder farmers, 23% of whom are women, is supported by The Coffee Gardens Washing Station, named in honour of Jackie Nafuna, their Field and Processing Officer. This tribute reflects appreciation for Jackie’s dedicated efforts. She began her journey in coffee as a day labourer and worked her way up from there.

Now, during the harvest season, Jackie supervises up to 60 people at the station, ensuring the meticulous sorting, drying, and tracking of each batch of delivered coffee. During the off-season, she is responsible for training farmers and collecting data to ensure year-on-year growth and quality. A few years ago, Jackie purchased her own land and planted coffee, which she now delivers to the station for processing.

The point worth noting with Nafuna is that, although it is a washed-process coffee, the Coffee Gardens have been experimenting with washing coffee in cherry pulp, resulting in this deliciously clean, yet elegantly peachy and silky cup.
