HOW TO BREW WITH THE V60 SWITCH
The V60 Switch is a hybrid brewer - similar to the Clever Dripper - that combines the clarity of a classic V60 pour over with the body and sweetness of an immersion brew. Making for consistently tasty brews, the V60 Switch is a favourite here at the roastery. Here’s our go-to recipe from James Hoffmann.
What You’ll Need
This recipe is for one cup of coffee.
- 15g of Square Mile coffee
- 250ml filtered, low-mineral water.
- V60 Switch and Match (using the Switch base) & V60 02 Papers or Sibarist Fast Filters
- Scales & timer.
- Your favourite mug or server
This guide is intended as a starting point for your brew, which will be best enjoyed when tweaked to your preferences!
Step-by-Step Brewing Guide
1. Measure & Grind
For the V60 we recommend 15g of coffee for 250ml of water. Grind your beans on a medium-fine setting, similar in texture to granulated sugar.
If you’re using our Grind Size Sample Pack, grind slightly finer than the V60 01 sample.
2. Prepare the Brewer
Place a paper filter into your V60 Switch and rinse with hot water. This removes any papery taste and preheats the brewer.
3. Add Coffee & Water
Ensuring the switch base is closed, set your scale to zero and pour your ground coffee into the brewer. Tare your scales and start your timer. Add 30ml of hot water, swirl to make sure all the grounds are wet, then add the remaining 220ml of water.
4. Steep
Let the coffee steep for 2 minutes, and give the coffee a gentle stir around 2m 15s. After stirring, wait for 15s.
5. Draw Down
At approximately 2m 30s, release the switch and let your coffee draw down. This should take around 2 minutes.
6. Stir
After the draw down is complete, give your brew a final stir and enjoy!
Handy Tips for Dialling In
- Too acidic / drains too quickly? → Grind finer.
- Too bitter / drains too slowly? → Grind coarser.
- Want a stronger cup? → Add +1g coffee.
- Prefer it lighter? → Use -1g coffee.
Additional Tips
- Make sure all your coffee grounds are wet, with no dry pockets.
- If your brews keep stalling, try adding 250g water first, and then add your 15g coffee, stirring till saturated.
